What to Do Wednesday: Your EI Kiddo is Hospitalized

𝘚𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰:
You’ve been seeing a family for a little while now when your kiddo becomes hospitalized. Maybe it’s for a planned or scheduled surgery/operation - or it could be a sudden hospitalization.

In Early Intervention we work with kiddo’s with an array of diagnoses, conditions, etc. some of which have high levels of medical complexities. This means that hospitalizations, though not usually frequent, do happen while kids are on our caseloads.

⚠️ NOTE: As with anything I talk about, always make sure to get guidance from your specific company or agency about what is allowed, what constitutes as billable time, etc ⚠️

I am definitely planning to do a “Session Sneak Peek” for the teletherapy session our team had in the hospital with one of our little ones.

The most common “complication” (related to therapy) that I see after a hospitalization is regression of skills. Of course the severity can depend on several factors including: reason for the hospitalization, expected recovery time, and length of stay.

While I primarily focus my attention and treatments towards regaining skills that may have been lost, there’s also the important role of providing emotional support for these families during what might be a very intense, scary, and overwhelming time in their lives.

Be sure to give the family the appropriate space that they may need but also remind them that you are there for them ❤️✨
