Session Sneak Peek: Hospital Teletherapy

A few weeks ago I did a #WhatToDoWhensDay on how I navigate scenarios when kiddo’s become hospitalized. If you haven’t already, go check it out. Today I want to chat about one of the points I mentioned which is to do a teletherapy/virtual session while they are in the hospital (if this is an option where you are)

In this post, you’ll meet my friend “F” - a 13 month old little one with a complex medical history including: prematurity, epilepsy, bilateral hearing loss, feeding difficulties (NG tube), and congenital heart disease.

Baby “F” has a full team including: OT, PT, SLP, developmental specialist, and hearing specialist. This was a planned hospitalization due to “F” needing heart surgery so as a team, we planned for several weeks in advance. We especially focused on getting “F” as physically strong as possible in the months and weeks leading up to the operation.

We spoke to the parent and asked if she’d like to pause services or continue even while in the hospital, mom really liked the support provided by the team and asked to continue...and that leads us here!

During this call, we also took a moment to check in with parent, ask how she was doing, and provide some emotional support which is always important.

One of the really nice things we accomplished was connecting mom with an organization that delivered a backpack full of supplies to support family during and after hospital stay. I highly encourage you to look into resources and organizations in your local area to further support your families.
