Pay Transparency in Job Postings

One of the most frustrating parts of job searching for me was that the job listings I saw did not provide any numbers aka ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐ค๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐๐ฎ.
No base pay.
No starting pay.
No minimum pay.
No range.
No ballpark.
Nothing.
Now, I know *why* most jobs donโt provide the numbers upfront. I get it. Thereโs a whole host of reasons. But as a new graduate with a high amount of student loan debt, salary was absolutely high on my list when I was searching for jobs ๐
I wouldโve loved the option to at least have some kind of ballpark range in my head when deciding if I wanted to apply to a position.
And the thing is...itโs not like this in every profession. For example, in hubsโ profession (CRNA) thereโs a whole website to search for jobs that list the pay range clear as day ๐๐พ When speaking to recruiters, they state (at least) the minimum pay in the email and initial phone screening. This is all done even before the official interview. THIS is pay transparency.
Pay is not a determining factor for everyone and I understand that. But for those of us trying to climb out of the debt hole...itโs certainly high on our priority list. It would just be nice to have more pay transparency within our industry as a whole ๐๐๐พ
Remember that thereโs more to consider than just salary, of course, so check out my friend Sarahโs @ot.4.lyfeโs recent #OTFinanceFriday post on what else you should consider with a package.
Now Iโm curious to know... ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐
