Are we being paid our worth?

𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡...

But I didn’t become one to struggle either. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying what you do, loving your profession, helping people, AND wanting to be paid well to do it.

Why is it that we can praise and celebrate executives and directors in the business and finance world for being multi-millionaires and still wanting to make more...but if someone in healthcare mentions not being satisfied with pay, it’s like 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴! Sure, I agree.

But I haven’t met a single person in healthcare who has ever made it evident that they were in it for the money. I have met several who were barely just making it.

This is largely due to the high ticket investment we make in our education, with many OTs in up to six figures of student loan debt that we’re trying to climb out of with an income that makes it feel impossible.

When I think about what we do as OTs, the immense value we bring to our clients and quite honestly the entire world...and then look at how we are being compensated, I can’t help but to feel disappointed.

Our numbers do not reflect our worth or the value we bring. Our income does not match the debt we’ve gone into for a profession we love. I’m not asking to be paid millions. I’m just asking to be paid our worth 🤷🏾‍♀️💰
