Alright friends, itโs another edition of #MoneyMonday ๐ฐ and today weโre talking about one of the most expensive mistakes you can make on your OT journey... ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป.
Becoming an OT doesnโt have to break the bank. However, there are OTs out there who excitedly chose an institution that was widely known and recognized but didnโt consider the hefty price tag. Itโs me ๐๐พโโ๏ธ Iโm ๐๐๐ด ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐
As some of you may know, I am deep in student loan debt due to attending a private institution in a city with a high cost of living. I know what youโre thinking, ๐๐บ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ, ๐ด๐ถ๐ฟ๐น, ๐๐ต๐? Well, I loved the city, and the school had amazing connections, and I received a scholarship so I justified the (still very expensive) price tag.

Employers just want to see youโre licensed to work. The school name doesnโt hold much weight โ ๏ธ ๐๐จ๐ง ๐๐ผ๐ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐น ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐โ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ...just keep eyes on those price tags!
Just because itโs private does not mean the education is any better ๐ซ So while it may be tempting to ignore the price tag to go to the โname brandโ school - donโt set yourself up for decades of debt!
I love the education I received and all the experiences I had, but the consequence of this decision has been a tough pill to swallow, which is why Iโm chatting about it. Donโt be like me friends, be better ๐โจ
