The Things That Keep Us Going and Remind Us Why We Started

I’m going to keep it real - being an OT is hard. There are times when I question myself...is what I’m doing actually working? Does it even make a difference? Will this strategy help? Do I really know what I’m doing?

Whether you call it Imposter Syndrome or just lack of confidence, it’s something that many of us struggle with, whether we’re a new graduate or a seasoned clinician.

But we all have those moments...those beautiful moments where something we suggest clicks. For me, this happened a few weeks ago when one of my little ones took independent steps after I gave a strategy and mom, with tears in her eyes, said “𝗢𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝘀𝗵, 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁!” and I couldn’t help but to get choked up too 🥺 It was an incredible moment not only for the family and child, but for me as the therapist who moments before had been questioning and doubting myself. I truly needed that win.

A few weeks ago I asked you all what are some things your families and patients have said to you that was the encouragement you needed to hear.

𝘚𝘸𝘪𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵

Sometimes it’s just something simple said to us that is exactly what we need to hear when we’re questioning ourselves. It gives us that boost of confidence that we all need as therapists, but most importantly, these are the moments that remind us why we started and encourage us to keep going ❤️

Now, I’d love to hear from you!
